Veracruz State Attorney General Luis Ángel Bravo said that the disappearance of the four youths on September 29, in Veracruz-Boca del Río, was not a kidnapping and that organized crime is tied to the case.
++ José Refugio Rodríguez, a lawyer for Joaquín “El Chapo Guzmán, testified before the Special Unit to Investigate Organized Crime on the ambush on military troops in Culiacán, Sinaloa, on September 30. The sons of Guzmán are allegedly involved in the attack.
When he stepped out of the interrogation, Rodríguez said that he told the investigative agent that the sons of Guzmán, are not involved in the attack.
++ Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberón, secretary of the Navy in Mexico, signed the first cooperation agreement with the National Public Information and Personal Data Protection Institute. He said that the Navy also joins the fight against abuse of power and corruption.
++ The Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mexican José Ángel Gurría, said that corruption and mistrust in society in general are global problems, not only in Mexico, a, country which he said, is economically stronger and better positioned than many other nations.
++ Finance Secretary José Antonio Meade confirmed that Mexico does not need and does not accept the creation of a Fiscal Council proposed by the International Monetary Fundt to supervise public debt.
He said also that should it be necessary Mexico could use a flexible credit line provided by the IMF to be able to face international volatility.
++ Speaking in Coahuila, President Enrique Peña Nieto said the challenge he faced at the start of his administration was to promote Mexico’s development by opening different sectors of the economy that were closed to private investment like energy and telecommunications.
++ The Presidency posted the letters President Enrique Peña Nieto sent to U.S. presidential candidates on August 25. Peña Nieto told both candidates about his firm belief in the importance of being good neighbors and cooperation between the two countries.
