Anti-drunk-driving programs introduced in Mexico City in 2003 have had tremendous impact on car accidents and car deaths, according to city officials. In 2002, there were 719 car deaths related to driving while driving under the influence of alcohol. but in 2012, the number of casualties dropped to 21.
During its first year, the program completed 65 thousand stops and 7,500 people were sent to a civic court. In 2012, there were 602 thousand stops and only 17,500 people were sent to court. During the December holidays, the anti-drunk program operates 24 hours throughout Mexicio City
